Big Pine Key: Barnacle Bed and Breakfast

This is a nice little place on Long Beach Road in Big Pine Key. Years ago when I first visited it was owned by a couple, Woody and Joan and their cute little dog, Sharkie. They have since sold the place.

Although I haven't been there since Woody and Joan sold it, I've heard from friends that it as good as it ever was. Each room is unique and comfortable, and the beach is quiet and relaxing. Don't look for soft sugar sand, however, in this part of the Keys. You can head a little bit up toward Bahia Honda if you want a nice swimming beach.

The main thing about Barnacle is the peace and quiet. You can nap as much as you like, but you are still a short hop skip and jump to Key West. Stop at No Name Pub on the way down the Keys.

Another nice event is to take the ferry from Big Torch Key to Little Palm Island and enjoy their luau. Your Barnacle hosts will tell you about it.
