CENTRAL WEST FLORIDA
HERITAGE SITES

Central West Florida heritage begins with the early native Americans who dwelled in the area 12,000 years ago.

Many of the early settlers in this area were employees of Cuban cigar makers who moved from Key West more than 100 years ago.

Other pioneer settlers came from elsewhere in the Deep South and northern regions of Florida.

This heritage is shared by all 8 counties in the region. Each county has its fair share of sites that are an important part of Central West Florida history.
