The busiest season for tourists in Northwest Florida is summer.

Prices for everything are higher in the summer.

Northwest Florida includes 12 counties: Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Bay, Holmes, Washington, Jackson, Calhoun, Liberty, Gulf and Franklin.

Culturally, it is more like Alabama than it is like the rest of Florida.

Here is a Florida Road Map and a Florida County Map for your enjoyment.

These maps will be useful to you as part of your free Florida travel guide to Northwest Florida.

Northwest Florida Map "Becalmed In The Mullet Latitudes" is a wonderful book by the late Al Burt published in 1983.

Al was a long time Miami Herald columnist who had a deep love for Florida and a melancholy for the "old Florida" that was disappearing.

He identified and chronicled the disappearing old places that he called the Mullet Latitudes. His name for Northwest Florida and the Panhandle was "Florabama".

Eglin Air Force Base Florida Many years ago I was a naval aviation cadet flying out of Pensacola.

My training flights were over the most pristine and undeveloped beaches in the United States.

There has been a lot of development since then, but plenty of remote beaches still remain to be explored.

For more information go to Northwest Florida Beaches.

Northwest Florida attractions include popular museums and lesser known vintage tourist entertainment spots.

  1. The National Naval Aviation Museum, Pensacola

NORTHWEST FLORIDA HERITAGE SITES

A heritage site is a place that authentically represents the stories and peoples of the past.

Northwest Florida heritage begins with the early native Americans who lived in the area 12,000 years ago.

This region was settled by Europeans earlier than any place else in the state. Pensacola was established in 1559, about 6 years before St. Augustine.

This heritage is shared by all 12 counties in Northwest Florida. Each county has its fair share of sites that are an important part of Florida history.

A list of these heritage sites is at Northwest Florida Heritage Sites.

NORTHWEST FLORIDA STATE PARKS

There are dozens of Florida State Parks in Northwest Florida. Many of them have wonderful white sand beaches. Most of them have campgrounds as well.

Any Northwest Florida travel experience will be enhanced by visiting one of these parks.

More information is available at Northwest Florida State Parks.
