Northwest Florida Travel Is A Passport To Fine Beaches

Loading

Northwest Florida travel will take you through miles of mainly rural country, pine woods flatlands, and some of the most beautiful white sand beaches in the world.

The busiest season for tourists in this part of Florida is summer. Prices for everything are higher in the summer.

This region includes 12 counties. Culturally, it is more like Alabama than it is like the rest of Florida.

Here is a Florida Road Map and a Florida County Map for your enjoyment.

Northwest Florida Map "Becalmed In The Mullet Latitudes" is a wonderful book by the late Al Burt published in 1983.

Al was a long time Miami Herald columnist who had a deep love for Florida and a melancholy for the "old Florida" that was disappearing.

He identified and chronicled the disappearing old places that he called the Mullet Latitudes. His name for Northwest Florida and the Panhandle was "Florabama".

More about Northwest Florida Travel, History and Places.

NORTHWEST FLORIDA TOWNS

Places to stay and places to eat can be found on the individual town pages.

The individual town pages include a brief history of the town along with my recommended motels, hotels and restaurants.

Each town page also includes a description of at least one bed and breakfast or historic hotel.

Some towns and places in Florabama currently on our website are:

  1. DeFuniak Springs
  2. Panama City
  3. Pensacola
  4. Seaside

NORTHWEST FLORIDA WINERIES

There are 4 Northwest Florida Wineries:

  1. Chatauqua Vineyards, DeFuniak Springs
  2. Emerald Coast Wine Cellars, Destin
  3. SeaBreeze Winery, Panama City Beach
  4. Three Oaks Winery, Vernon

I spent a fun weekend at Seaside and visited a couple of the nearby vineyards.

Beach time, wine and relaxation: what could be better on a Florida travel weekend?

More information about the Florida wine industry and a listing of all Florida Wineries is here.

NORTHWEST FLORIDA BEACHES

Northwest Florida travel will take you to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Eglin Air Force Base Florida Many years ago I was a naval aviation cadet flying out of Pensacola.

My training flights were over the most pristine and undeveloped beaches in the United States.

There has been a lot of development since then, but plenty of remote beaches still remain to be explored.

For more information go to Northwest Florida Beaches.

NORTHWEST FLORIDA ATTRACTIONS

Northwest Florida attractions include popular museums and lesser known vintage tourist entertainment spots.

  1. The National Naval Aviation Museum, Pensacola

Attractions in other areas of Florida are at Florida Tourist Attractions.

NORTHWEST FLORIDA HERITAGE SITES

A heritage site is a place that authentically represents the stories and peoples of the past.

Northwest Florida heritage begins with the early native Americans who lived in the area 12,000 years ago.

This region was settled by Europeans earlier than any place else in the state. Pensacola was established in 1559, about 6 years before St. Augustine.

This heritage is shared by all 12 counties in Northwest Florida. Each county has its fair share of sites that are an important part of Florida history.

A list of these heritage sites is at Northwest Florida Heritage Sites.

NORTHWEST FLORIDA STATE PARKS

There are dozens of Florida State Parks in Northwest Florida. Many of them have wonderful white sand beaches. Most of them have campgrounds as well.

Any Northwest Florida travel experience will be enhanced by visiting one of these parks.

More information is available at Northwest Florida State Parks.

NORTHWEST FLORIDA DAY TRIPS
AND ONE TANK TRIPS

There is a demand throughout the country for information on day trips and one tank trips. People like the idea of leaving their home, seeing a lot in a day or two, and not breaking the family budget.

Virtually every state, including Florida, has websites and books that focus on the concept of being able to travel from your home and see a lot of interesting places and things.

Florida-Backroads-Travel.com is a Florida travel website that will give you some great ideas for local day trips and one tank trips.

Northwest Florida has plenty of safe and scenic, lightly traveled backroads that will take you through interesting Florida towns and attractions.

Here are some Northwest Florida day trips and one tank trips.
