ST GEORGE ISLAND STATE PARK
St George Island State park has the full name of Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park. This writeup is from the home page of the park created by the Florida State Park Service. I can't improve on it, so here it is. Miles of undeveloped beach with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and Apalachicola Bay on the other provide the perfect setting for this park. The park offers ample opportunities for sunbathing, swimming, canoeing, boating, hiking, camping, and nature study. Two boat ramps provide access to Apalachicola Bay where anglers can fish for flounder, redfish, sea trout, pompano, whiting, and Spanish mackerel.
Few parks offer better opportunities for gulf coast shelling. Shore birds such as the snowy plover, least tern, black skimmer, and willet often nest along the park´s sandy shores and grass flats. The park has six large picnic shelters equipped with grills, tables, and restrooms. The campground features full-facility campsites; a primitive campsite can be accessed by trail or by private boat. Located on St. George Island, 10 miles southeast of Eastpoint, off U.S. 98. For information about St George Island State Park, please call 850-927-2111. Campsite reservations can be made through ReserveAmerica.com. HOURS OF OPERATION Florida state parks are open from 8 a.m. until sundown 365 days a year. PARK FEES Admission Fee: $6.00 per vehicle. Limit 2-8 people per vehicle. $4.00 Single Occupant Vehicle. $2.00 Pedestrians, bicyclists, extra passengers, passengers in vehicle with holder of Annual Individual Entrance Pass. $6.00 per person, plus tax, East End access for Adults. Children 12 and under are free. Camping Fee: $24.00 per night, plus tax. Includes water and electricity. Picnic Pavilion Rental Fees: $50.00 per day, plus tax: There are two Picnic Pavilions which can be reserved. One at Sugar Hill and the other at East Slough. Pavilions are not rented on holidays. No pets or alcohol permitted. HOW TO FIND ST GEORGE ISLAND STATE PARK Access to St. George Island is via a 4 mile bridge that is accessible from Eastpoint, Florida.
