St Pete Is The Best In Florida!

by Clark Inge
(Edgewood, Florida)

St Petersburg is a huge sprawling city that somehow maintains its distincive character.

It was once the home of "the dead or nearly dead and dying", the home of green benches with poor old pale skinned northerners sitting in their Sunday clothes watching each other and waiting for the invevitable end.

Just to drive through town was depressing. It looked like an excellent place to own a funeral home, but other business ventures looked risky.

Somehow over the years things have changed. I guess the senior citizens of 50 years ago have passed on and been replaced by a younger crowd. Life is certainly one cycle after another.

Downtown St Pete is great with lots of neat restaurants and clubs and the ambience of the surrounding municipal marina and Harborage marina nearby.

The Dali Museum and a campus of the University of South Florida add to the downtown energy.

As a long time Floridian, I have to say that St Pete has become maybe the best urban place in Florida.

St.Pete Is Florida's Mecca!
by: Greg May

Yes, I remember when we used to refer to St. Pete as "Wrinkle City" because it was best known for its retirement community. But today St. Pete is alive and kicking with all the cultural, educational and entertainment venues that make it a world-class city. I have fond memories of the now-defunct AQUATARIUM, an oceanarium on St. Pete Beach that was in operation from 1964 to 1978. In 1976 they changed its name to SHARK WORLD to cash in on the Jaws mania that swept the nation thanks to the Steve Spielberg movie. Read about the Aquatarium on this website: "Remembering the Aquatarium" and "The World's Greatest Marine Show."
