Wonderful Deland Restaurant

by Mary Miller
(Mt. Dora, FL)

While passing through Deland, I decided to stop and stroll the downtown area to enjoy the unique shops. It was just about noon when I passed a charming cafe with outdoor seating. The menu was posted and I was surprised to see "Gourmet Modern Mexican Cuisine" I'm not a real fan of Tex/Mex, but this menu was different and sounded intriguing.

I went in, the walls are a gallery of colorful paintings (many for sale). My seat by the window was perfect to view the street scene as well as other diners.

Extensive menu ... everything from Tacos $7. (not your everday tacos!) to Paella Mixta $15.(mussels, fish, chicken, sirloin and shrimp.)

I decided on De La Vera Chef Nora's Classic Tacos, which were served with bell peppers-rice and refried beans.

While I was waiting I enjoyed a glass of wine and the best cup of black bean soup I ever experienced. The tacos arrived and they were pink! I had to ask. The taco shells are specially made for the restaurant. The taco maker's trademark is different colors!

Chef Nora's family is originally from Central Mexico and her recipes are inspired by her mother. Her business partner Manny makes the best flan ever!

What I planned as a quick bite turned into a dining experience! Even if you think you don't like Mexican food, give this place a try!

De La Vega is located at 128 N. Woodland Blvd, Deland

Great idea.

I forgot to mention-if anyone out there is a vegetarian, De La Vega goes to great lengths for you!

Your Review Was Mouth Watering!

Thank you, Mary for that wonderful story. That will be a neat place to eat when I visit the manatees at Blue Springs this winter!
