U.S. HIGHWAY 17 FROM GEORGIA STATE LINE TO PUNTA GORDA
US-17 is known as the Coastal Highway because for much of its length it travels a route close to the Atlantic Coast. It begins in Winchester, Virginia, and has its southern end in Punta Gorda, Florida.
For most of its distance in Florida, it does not run along the coast. It travels diagonally across the state from the Georgia state line on the St. Marys River and meanders about 325 miles to Punta Gorda in Southwest Florida.
Just follow the signs, and some of the towns you will pass through on this route include:
Yulee, Jacksonville, Orange Park, Green Cove Springs, Palatka, Crescent City, Seville, Pierson, Barberville, DeLeon Springs, Deland, Sanford, Longwood, Maitland, Orlando, Kissimmee, Davenport, Haines City, Lake Alfred, Winter Haven, Fort Meade, Bowling Green, Wauchula, Zolfo Springs, Arcadia, Fort Ogden, and Punta Gorda.

Sanford's revitalized historic downtown neighborhood extends four blocks along West First Street. The Corner Cafe is in an historic old restored building within this neighborhood.
One of the biggest delights is having lunch or dinner at The Corner Cafe. It is a small unpretentious place on the ground floor with a few booths and tables where everything looks clean and inviting.
Owner Mike O'Brien also owns a catering company, Gourmet2Go, and the restaurant's full name is "The Corner Cafe - Home of Gourmet2Go".

April is our favorite time of year. This year not so much, however, because many of us are staying at home because of the global virus pandemic. The weather is great, and we enjoy our time at home by reading and getting caught up on chores. March was warmer than usual. Most of our snowbirds typically go back north this month, but
many are staying in their Florida homes during the pandemic. No restaurants are open yet for inside dining. Some are offering take out or delivery services.
HERE ARE SOME INTERESTING FLORIDA EVENTS FOR APRIL:
FLORIDA WINERIES. Check the Florida winery nearest you. Many of them have wonderful weekend events that include music and wine tastings. Our site has information on 27 wineries scattered across the state. We plan to add even more when we have time to visit them.
FLORIDA TOURIST ATTRACTIONS. We have an extensive list of Florida Tourist Attractions. Some of them are well known; other are a wonderful step back into Old Florida.
FLORIDA FESTIVALS. There are several
outside events this time of year. Among these are outdoor art festivals and folk and bluegrass music festivals.
