KISSIMMEE: HISTORIC FLORIDA CATTLE TOWN EATEN BY GIANT MOUSE
Kissimmee, Florida is 22 miles south of Orlando and 12 miles southeast of Walt Disney World. The correct way to pronounce its name is kiss-IM-mee. Its 2020 population is 77,000, and it is the County Seat of Osceola County.
Like many other Florida locations, Kissimmee is a "tale of two cities." The way it is, and the way it was. I call these two entirely different cities Touristy Kissimmee and Historic Kissimmee.
When you head south from touristy US-192 through the welcome gate into historic Kissimmee, things begin to quiet down. There are many historic buildings and attractive old trees.

February has some cold spells which make staying at home during this pandemic not quite as painful - but still a pain. Some people still go to their jobs every day and we appreciate them. Some restaurants are open with curbside service only or limited seating. Some are completely open with no restrictions.
Everybody is doing their best. We enjoy our solitude at home by reading and getting caught up on chores. Many restaurants are completely open now, but with reduced capacity, mask requirements, and spaced seating. Most of our snowbirds are back for the season.
HERE ARE SOME INTERESTING FLORIDA EVENTS FOR FEBRUARY:
FLORIDA WINERIES. Check the Florida winery nearest you. Many of them have wonderful weekend events that include music and wine tastings. Our site has information on 27 wineries scattered across the state. We plan to add even more when we have time to visit them.
