What really saved the alligator from near extinction in Florida was New York shutting down the alligator belly skin market in NYC. They used to haul gator belly skins by the truck load to that international market.
May is a good month to go out into rural wetland Florida and listen to bull gators roar so loud it seems to shake the ground. It will get your attention.
