We know many of you are limiting travel during these uncertain times.  Although we continue to feature trips and places to visit, we are not encouraging you to visit them until it is safe.  We want to support Florida's attractions and businesses during this situation, and hope you will plan to visit them when things get better.  In the meantime, enjoy them virtually from the comfort of your home.

Locals love this place, and so do tourists once they find out about it.  It is located on the east side of Central Merritt Island at the beginning of the long causeway over the Banana River that runs to Cocoa Beach.

As is fitting for its location on a beautiful river, it specializes in seafood. This is a restaurant where you can dress very casually.  You don't need to wear a sport coat or tie or even a collared shirt.  Many landlubbers also love waterfront restaurants, and there are plenty of items on the menu to make them happy.

Popular menu items begin with their appetizers:  mussels, potato fritters, seafood sampler, coconut shrimp, Irish nachos, and many other items both from land and sea.

They have an extensive sandwich menu.  Sandwiches come with homemade potato chips, and you choice of fries, sweet potato fries, tots, onion rings, or mixed vegetables.  Some sandwich selections are The Island Burger, Philly Cheese Steak, fish tacos, Cuban, Boom Shrimp Taco, and even a chicken sandwich.

Their main menu includes a daily special, a different one for each day of the week.  For example, Crab Leg Monday and Fish Taco Saturday.

The entree menu is loaded with good choices:  Caribbean Grouper or Mahi, Surf and Turf, Fried Fish Dinner, Crab Stuffed Cobia, and many more.  I love blackened Mahi Mahi.  They also have a nice selection of salads, soups, and wraps.  My favorite soup here is the New Orleans style gumbo.

The restaurant has a full liquor bar and can make anything you want.  Their Electric shark is unique.  It's made from Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, Blue Curacao Liqueur, pineapple, and Grosling's Ginger Beer.

Island Waterfront typically has live entertainment, and is considered to have some of the best musical groups in Brevard County.

Inside dining tables usually have a view of the Banana River, and there is also plenty of outside seating on the deck and in the bar.

Island Waterfront Bar & Grill is open 7 days a week from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm.  On Friday and Saturday nights they stay open until 11:00 pm.
