Jane R Wood

Jane R Wood

Jane R Wood was born in Astoria, Oregon, in 1947, but moved to Central Florida with her family in 1957, just in time to witness America’s historic journeys into space.

This Florida author grew up along the Space Coast, and spent two of her college summers working at the Kennedy Space Center.

She graduated from the University of Florida in 1969, taught middle school and high school in Brevard County and Orange County, and then became a stay-at-home-mom for ten years while her two sons were growing up.

During that period she wrote a community news column for a local newspaper.

In 1988, she earned an M.Ed from the University of North Florida. She was hired by a Jacksonville cable company where she produced educational shows for television.

She was promoted to Community Affairs Manager, but was downsized in 2000 after twelve years.

That gave her the opportunity to do something she always wanted to do – write fiction books for kids.

Her first book, Voices in St. Augustine, was published in 2004 by a small publisher in St. Augustine.

In 2007, she started her own independent publishing company, Florida Kids Press, Inc. Since then this prolific Florida author has published three additional books.

Her first three books take place in Florida, and all three have received a Mom’s Choice Award®, a national award recognizing “quality family-friendly” products.

As a former teacher, Wood designs her books to be educational, as well as fun.

She uses mystery, adventure and humor to engage young readers, while at the same time, weaving history and information about the environment into her story lines.

Wood’s books are used in many schools throughout the state of Florida. She has numerous Teacher Resources on her website at www.janewoodbooks.com, and does Author Visits to Schools across the country.

Wood lives in Jacksonville with her husband Terry. She has two grown sons and one granddaughter, all of whom also live in Jacksonville.

Here is a list of Jane R Wood books; the first three have Florida settings.

(2004,2008) Voices in St. Augustine – A mystery that takes place in the Nation’s Oldest City.

(2007) Adventures on Amelia Island: A Pirate, A Princess and Buried Treasure. This story takes place during the annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival on Amelia Island and is filled with colorful characters, humorous situations and a youthful spirit of adventure.

(2008) Trouble on the St. Johns River – A book with an environmental theme that inspires kids to become more aware of the ecosystem around them and ways they can “make a difference” too.

(2010) Ghosts on the Coast: A Visit to Savannah and the Low Country - The Johnson family vacations in Savannah, Charleston and Pawleys Island, South Carolina – all areas rich in history and ghost stories. Kids love ghost stories!
