William MILLER was born 24 November 1790 in Georgia, probably in Laurens County. His parents are unknown, although there is some indication that his father was also named William. He married Sarah "Sally" Miller in Laurens County on 3 March 1814. In 1824 the Territorial Governor of Florida granted him the right to operate a ferry over Holmes Creek at a site later called Millers Ferry, and now identified on state Road 284 in Washington County, where the road crosses Holmes Creek.
