Kids and adults alike love Brevard Zoo. It is one of the most popular Florida zoos. More than 550 animals live here representing 165 different species. Animals are included from Florida, Africa, Asia, Australia and Latin America. Unlike other Florida tourist attractions, you are able to hand feed giraffes and birds, and ride a small train around the grounds.
There is also a guided kayak tour through 22 acres of restored wetlands.
You will see giraffes, rhinos, cranes, lemurs and other animals on this tour. Kids enjoy the petting zoo and animal contact zones in a participatory exhibit designed by kids with the help of Robert Leathers.
This beautiful facility was built with a huge volunteer effort.
Over 16,000 people helped build it. I was fortunate to be one of those volunteers in the spring of 1992. This most unique of Florida zoos and tourist attractions opened in March 1994. It is a world-class zoo where kids and adults learn to understand and love animals. Visiting a zoo is one of the most interesting and relaxing things to do in Florida. Any discussion of Florida tourist attractions is not complete without including Florida zoos.
