Econfina River State Park in Lamont, Florida, covers 3,377 acres along the Gulf. The Econfina River runs through pine flatwoods, oak-palm forests, and salt marshes.
Visitors can hike, bike, or horseback ride on 14.8 miles of trails. Kayaking, canoeing, and boating are popular on the river.
The park offers picnic areas and opportunities for wildlife viewing. It’s a quiet spot for nature lovers.
The Econfina River area has a long history. Native Americans used it for fishing and hunting in prehistoric times. The river provided food and materials for tools.
In the 1800s, settlers arrived, drawn by the Gulf’s resources. The park became a state park in 1989 after Florida purchased land from a nearby fish camp.
It preserves the area’s natural and cultural heritage. Archaeological sites in the park show evidence of early human activity.
The park is at 4741 Econfina River Road, Lamont, Florida 32336. From US 98, take CR 14 south for 6.1 miles to the park entrance.
It’s 15 miles west of Perry and 18 miles east of Newport. The park is open daily from 8 AM to sunset. Leashed pets are allowed in designated areas.
Bring bug spray, as mosquitoes are common. There are two small boat ramps for kayaks and canoes. Picnic tables and a pavilion are available first-come, first-serve.
Equestrians must register at the park office before using trails. A nearby RV campground offers supplies.
