Located in downtown New Port Richey, Florida, the Hacienda Hotel is a restored 1920s boutique lodging that captures the essence of Old Florida in a quiet waterfront town.
With its pink-stucco Mediterranean Revival façade and historic Spanish influenced architecture, the hotel has recently emerged as a charming base for visitors seeking more than a standard stay.
Hacienda Hotel in the 1920sThe lobby still features antique chandeliers, original fireplaces, and a courtyard fountain that dates to the hotel’s opening year of 1927.
The Hacienda opened its doors on February 5, 1927, in a Florida land boom era when New Port Richey aspired to be known as “Hollywood East.”
Thomas MeighanBuilt with local capital and the backing of more than fifty stockholders, the hotel was financed on land donated by James Meighan, brother of the silent-film star Thomas Meighan.
In its early decades, the Hacienda hosted a number of Hollywood souls and sports figures who were drawn to the area’s riverside charm.
Gloria Swanson, Lupe Vélez, Charlie Chaplin and Johnny Cash are among those linked with the hotel’s storied past.
The building was added in 1996 to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its Mediterranean-Revival style and local cultural importance.
As time wore on the building began to decline, but after a meticulous restoration by Jim and Alexandra Gunderson it reopened to overnight guests in September 2022, reclaiming its role as a historic centerpiece of downtown.
The Gundersons also restored and currently operate the Lakeside Inn in Mount Dora, Florida.
The Hacienda Hotel is an operating business located at 5621 Main Street, New Port Richey, Florida 34652, just off U.S. 19 and a short drive from I-75.
Staying here places you steps from Sims Park and the banks of the Pithlachascotee River (locally called Cotee), so plan to allow time for a stroll along the water or a stop at nearby local shops and eateries.
The hotel offers 40 guest rooms and a king suite styled in the original 1927 floor plan, blending historic charm with modern amenities such as free WiFi, mini-fridges upon request and complimentary parking.
On-site dining at Sasha’s on the Park serves breakfast daily starting at 8 a.m., lunch Monday through Saturday and dinner Sunday through Thursday until about 8:30 p.m. (Friday and Saturday dinner extends to 9 p.m.). Bar service begins at 11 a.m. most days.
Hacienda Hotel BedroomIf you prefer quieter times, mid-week visits tend to be more relaxed. Because of the historic architecture some areas have steps or narrow walkways (the building is not fully accessible in all parts) — the front desk can assist with accessible room options.
The Hacienda Hotel offers more than just a bed for the night: it invites you into a slice of Florida’s past, set in a town that once welcomed Hollywood stars and now welcomes those longing for the nostalgia, elegance, and unique character of a bygone era.
