Richard Lee Cronin was born and raised in Southwestern Ohio and brought his young family to Florida in 1971. Thirty-eight years later, in 2009, he retired to focus more time on his love of history and writing.
Primarily interested in learning about the courageous men and women of the 19th century, who, despite overwhelming odds, tamed Florida’s rugged wilderness, Cronin has since released over a dozen books telling of Florida’s fascinating history.
Beginning with his first book, Citrusland: Curse of Florida’s Paradise, released in 2013, Cronin has combined genealogy and history research to give a better understanding of the pioneers who left their homeland and came to Florida during the 1800s from nearly every corner of the world.
Although his books are largely non-fiction, several are historical Nnovels based on true-life events and characters. Cronin’s style of research and writing has even gone so far as to convince Florida’s State House of Representatives to amend its 190-year-old roster of lawmakers.
In his Civil War Novel, The Rutland Mule Matter, Isaac N. Rutland, the second Orange County delegate to vote no to Secession in 1861, had been missing from the State’s roster for 144 years.
Rutland’s name was added in 2017 along with a dozen other Floridians because of the research for this book.
More than merely writing about history, Cronin attempts as well to do his part to “Right Florida History”.
A resident of historic Mount Dora since 2019, a complete list of books by Richard Lee Cronin can be found on his website, www.CroninBooks.com
