Located in the heart of the historic Ortega neighborhood in Jacksonville, Florida, the Village Store—also known as Oxford Place—stands as a testament to early 20th-century architecture and community life.
This charming Colonial Revival building, completed in 1924, served as a vibrant hub for the Ortega community.
The Village Store was designed by the prominent Jacksonville architectural firm Marsh & Saxelbye and originally operated as Faulkner’s Grocery Company, displaying fresh produce and meats in its large street-facing windows.
It became a cornerstone of Ortega Village, a walkable commercial district developed in 1906 as part of Jacksonville’s streetcar suburb expansion.
In recognition of its architectural and cultural importance, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 29, 1988.
The Village Store is located at 4216 Oxford Avenue, with additional addresses at 4212 and 4208 Oxford Avenue, and 2906 and 2902 Corinthian Avenue in Jacksonville, FL.
In recent years the building housed various local businesses, including antique shops and boutiques. These days the building is unoccupied and can only be viewed from the outside.
When visiting, consider strolling through the surrounding Ortega Village area, known for its historic charm and walkable streets.
Whether you're a history enthusiast, architecture aficionado, or simply exploring Jacksonville's neighborhoods, the Village Store in Ortega offers a unique glimpse into the city's rich past and vibrant present.
