A Land Remembered
by: Dan Mongosa

Ziba King's life story and his following generations of Florida pioneers and cattle owners is historically fictionalized beautifully in the must read novel "A Land Remembered" by Patrick Smith. It is a very well-written story of three generations of a family from the 1800's to mid 1900's. Each generation faces enormous hardships struggling to make a home & living from the lands, the friends and enemies they encounter, and the ever changing times in Florida's early years of statehood.
Having lived in Florida for more than half my life, I have come to love and truly appreciate all of it's natural beauty but sadly have also seen the destruction and disappearance of it due to growth. The author paints a very descriptive and vivid picture of the vast wilderness and the native people that used to be here before "progress" took it all away.

Fort Ogden

My Great Grandfather W. H Barnwell had a bar that he got from Ziba King next to the store . He was a pioneer in the area and almost died when he was robbed by the Johnson Brothers, a band of robbers and cattle rustlers.
